Mini Kitchen Makeover

We put the final touches on our kitchen this weekend! Well actually it was my husband and stepdad, I was out of town with my mom when it was done. The only thing left is to find a new light fixture to go over the kitchen table but otherwise it's complete!

All of the "building" supplies are from Lowes(glass tile, faucet, etc), the decor items are from Hobby Lobby(my favorite place ever), and the teal cabinet is from Target.

I finally got my white sink! It's my dream! :-)

Glass tile.

I love this pretty cabinet. Yes it's where I'm storing all of my bento supplies.

Brinley's Trip to American Girl

Earlier this week Bryan and I decided to was time to get Brinley her first American Girl doll. The girls I babysit each have one and she has loved playing with them, she asked us the other day when she could getan American Girl that looked like her and we decided to surprise her with a trip this weekend.

We had to drive 5 hours to Dallas, Texas to get to the store but it was beyond worth it! She and I both were in heaven.

Once we knew we were going to go I made reservations at the bistro and it was so much fun! We had originally planned to do get there pick out her doll and all the accessories and then eat dinner. But we had a few setbacks and got a late start, that combined with Dallas traffic caused us to be there about 10 minutes before our 6pm reservation time so Brinley didn't have a doll. BUT the restaurant has a whole bunch of dolls girls without dolls can borrow for their meal! I had no idea they offered that but I thought it was such a nice touch.

They also give the dolls little high chairs and tea cups. Brinley brough
in her honey bunny lovey and they were so nice to give her a high chair and teacup too.

Miss Manners putting her napkin in her lap.

My heart.
Finally! It was time to get her doll. We told her she could pick any one she wanted and after looking at every single doll in the store she picked "The Girl of the Year" Isabelle.

Excited much?

Blurry but I had to include this. She was reading to her doll in the car.

We literally closed down the store, we were there for 3.5 hours! Once we left we went to the mall which is right next door and did some clothes shopping. By the time we were done it was after 10pm so we decided to get a room and stay in Dallas(originally it was just going to be a day trip)

So of course we had to make one last stop at American Girl before leaving! How could we not!?  Brinley picked our a few more things for Isabelle and we headed home.

Notice daddy in the background carrying our stuff? We've taught him well.

They had to pose the same way. :-)

It was such a great weekend, even if it was busy and we barely stopped going it was so nice to get away and get a change of scenery.

A Weekend Project

About two years ago my mom gave us her old kitchen table, it was in perfect condition and it was great...minus the fact that it was black which isn't really my style. I'm a more shabby chic kind of girl, and the black table is just so harsh and dark. And when we bought our house I knew I wanted a "shabby chic" or "french country" feel and the black table just completely clashed with the yellow we painted our kitchen in my mind. I had been considering painting it forever, but I was chicken to be honest and was scared I'd mess it up. But I finally got the courage up this weekend and painted it. It turned out SO well in my opinion!

I was so anxious I forgot to take a before photo but I do have this one, I took it right after we finished the kitchen renovation so the picture quality isn't great.

My little helper!

I am seriously in love with the look of it! It's so pretty and brightens up the kitchen. I'm thinking about adding padding and fabric to the seats but I'll have to wait and see. I'm a little nervous because I don't want the fabric to get gross which is kind of unavoidable with a 5 year old! Maybe scotch guarding the fabric will work? We'll have to see.

The "how to" is SO easy. I used Glidden brand paint from Walmart of all places, I had never used this brand before so I was nervous about the quality but it was excellent, it went on smoothly and it only took two coats of paint which is impressive I think. I didn't do any prep to the table whatsoever, I just literally started painting. I used just regular latex semi-gloss paint too. I saw some tutorials on pinterest that said to use oil based but I know that stuff is hard to use and plus the fumes are killer. So I went with the other suggestion and did semi-gloss. I've already had to wipe it down after meals a few times and it's fine so I don't think it'll be an issue.

Let's Rewind

The last time I sat down and wrote a blog about my life I was 30-something weeks pregnant with surrogate twins, that was over a year ago so needless to say there is updating to be done.

First the twin girls were born in July right at 37 weeks. I went for my regular check-up and while doing a typical internal exam my doctor said my water was "bulging" and as he continued the exam it broke. So that was fun. The mother of the babies and her family were there for the birth but sadly things kind of blew up from there. Due to the position of baby b we opted for a c-section, unfortunately my doctor was not on call during the the birth so the on call doctor didn't let the mother into the operating room. She was upset to say the least and decided it was somehow my fault the doctor made that call(hospital policy is immediate family only in the OR, my OB was willing to allow both my husband and the babies mother in). And I never heard a word from her after I was wheeled into the operating room. I'm okay with that though. One day I hope to do surrogacy again and have a lasting relationship with family after delivery.

The following March we took a family trip to Disney World, with the exception of my step-dad it was all of our first times going. It was an incredible trip and we loved every second of it. So much so we are going back this March to do it all over again! After our first trip I completely understand why people become "Disney obsessed" I'm now of those people!

The Magic Kingdom!

Our whole family at Epcot

Of course we couldn't do Disney World without taking out girl to the

Talking to Cinderella before we had dinner at Cinderella's Castle

Dinner at Ohana's

During the same time we were planning our Disney trip, we bought a house. We actually officially closed on our house two hours before we left for Disney World. It couldn't have been more perfect! We love it and are enjoying doing home improvement projects on the weekends. I'm sure I'll be posting our renovations and DIY projects here as well.
Home Sweet Home. :-)

Brinley's bedroom. Perfect for a princess!
New bedding is about as far as we've gotten with our bedroom
(and lets not even talk about the master bathroom it's a mess)
Brinley's playroom

My kitchen. This is my happy place!

Brinley started preschool in August and loves it. It was an adjustment for me, but she has been blessed with two of the most amazing teacher that have ever been(at least in my opinion). She has made so many new friends and I've been able to make some friends as well, so that's been nice.

I also started taking online college courses in August, it's been great! I really enjoy challenging my mind and learning new things. Bryan just finished his 2nd semester at a local university and he's doing great! Somehow he manages to work 12+ hours a day and keep up with classes without a problem.

So that's basically what we've up to since I disappeared from the blogging world! :-)

Hello out there! So two friends of mine decided to restart blogging in the new year and it inspired me to start blogging again too. Who knows what I will have to write about, or how often I'll be writing. I just figured having an outlet for my thoughts would be good for me. I think a lot...about nothing in particular of course. I think that's a curse that plagues all women.

So a little bit about me. I'm married to my high school sweetheart, we've been together for almost 10 years and married for 6. He's still my best friend and makes me laugh everyday. We have a happy, amazing, outgoing, and imaginative 5 year old daughter. Who is the light of our lives. I've been home with her since the day she was born and I've loved it. She's in preschool now(she misses our state age cutoff for kindergarten by 12 days) so I've found I have a lot of free time on my hands during the day....it's really weird. I try to stay busy doing stuff around the house, I also have a crafty side so I do all sorts of random things to pass the time. One thing I really enjoy it making fun "bento" lunches for my daughter, I know people think that's crazy but I like it and it gives me a fun creative outlet. My husband and I are both full time college students so life gets crazy every now and again. Luckily I can take all of my classes online which helps.I'm a happy person(hence the name of this blog) some might say annoyingly so but I think being happy is a choice and I choose to be happy and find joy in everyday. My life isn't perfect but it's a good life and I love every minute of it.

Things I love:
date nights
SEC football

Celexa(it keeps my crazy away...just being real ha!)
